Winthrop, Theodore Life in the Open Air Boston Ticknor and Fields 1863 Hard Cover Very Good Ex-Library Very good copy, ex-library. Maroon cloth boards with gold lettering on spine, 374 pp., top gilt edge. Head and foot bands pulled. Personal bookplate on front pastedown, prior owner's information on FFEP (dated Feb. 1899), several library stamps and a number, library card pasted on back FEP, card pocket pasted to back pastedown. Small crease to edge of FFEP. Binding at top of back pastedown is separating for two inches. Text block in excellent condition. Spine and top of front board sunned. This work is the last of Winthrop's books, contains essays and observations about travels from Maine to Aconcagua. Winthrop lost his life in the military service in 1861, this volume was published posthumously. Printer: John W. Lovell Company, New York. Bottom of spine states "Oxford Edition." Price:

It contains two important and inspiring works, one work describes the author's travels in Oregon and Washington in the 1850's, and another work describes his travels in Panama (published posthumously). Includes a chapter on Chinook vocabulary. American Publishers Corporation noted on title page and on the ads at end of book. Green cloth boards with black blindstamped design on cover, same design on spine, lettering in silver on spine. Top gilt edge. 375 pp. and eight pages of interesting advertisements of "recently" published books at end. Old mending to adhere front and back hinges, spine separating from text block at contents page. Text block browning nicely. Top and bottom of spine frayed and bumped, bumped at tips and corners, back board rubbed. We specialize in books about Bellingham and the surrounding area.
